ReconRobotics Introduces Alternate-Frequency
Reconnaissance Robots

Innovation Will Allow Police Tactical Teams To Use Two Robots Simultaneously

EDINA, Minn. – May 29, 2009 – ReconRobotics, Inc. has announced the introduction of alternate-frequency Recon Scout® mobile reconnaissance robots that will allow police tactical teams and military personnel to use two robots in the same environment at the same time. This capability will reduce reconnaissance time and enable SWAT teams to quickly clear rooms during high-risk operations involving barricaded suspects, narcotic raids and hostage situations.

Until now, all miniature Recon Scout and Recon Scout IR robots and operator control units (OCUs) operated on a specialized frequency designated as frequency B. With the introduction of the new alternate-frequency units, which will operate on frequency A, police can now simultaneously deploy two robots, assigning one to each entry team or using the robots to clear two floors of the same structure at the same time. The new alternate-frequency robots and paired OCUs will carry an “A” frequency stamp for easy identification.

According to CEO Alan Bignall, this innovation will dramatically increase the safety of police and military operations. “More than 100 military, police and security agencies already use our robots to protect the lives of their personnel and increase the effectiveness of their tactical operations,” says Bignall. “These alternate-frequency robots will, in effect, double their reconnaissance capabilities and give them another set of eyes on the inside before they send their personnel through the door. We are very happy to deliver this life-saving innovation to our nation’s police forces and frontline military personnel.”

The Recon Scout and Recon Scout IR robots are unique in that they are small, throwable and mobile. The robots are used to explore dangerous environments to help determine the location of suspects, the layout of rooms, the types of weapons the suspects might have, and the number, condition and locations of hostages. Armed with this information, tactical teams can plan with greater confidence and mitigate risks to police officers and to hostages.

The standard Recon Scout IR Kit includes one Recon Scout IR robot, a handheld operator control unit, charging units, cables and a padded traveling case. Also available is an optional Recon Scout Command Monitoring Station that allows commanders to receive and assess all video transmissions from the Recon Scout robots from up to 1,000 feet away.
